Shooting Sports Director

Position Concept:

The Shooting Sports Director will develop and oversee the execution of meaningful shooting sports programs in the National Scout Camp as a means to forward the Aims and Methods of Scouting

Location:

James C. Justice National Scout Camp

Reports To:

Program Director

Salary Grade:

IV

Principle Responsibilities:

·     With the help of assistant(s) train and supervise staff in execution of advancement and open programs in archery, rifle shooting, shotgun shooting, and other shooting sports activities

·     Direct the set up and takedown of the Shooting Sports Annex and Crafton Sportsman Complex

·     Oversee regular cleaning and maintenance of all firearms

·     Oversee regular maintenance and repair of all bows and arrows

·     Keep an accurate inventory of supplies and request more as needed in a timely manner

·     Ensure that all equipment is used properly, inventoried, and returned in good repair

·     Ensure that all merit badge and class paperwork is filled out accurately and timely

·     Carry out and enforce the policies and procedures outlined in the Summit Bechtel Reserve Staff Handbook

·     Ensure all programs, staff, and facilities are in compliance with National Camp Accreditation Standards, state/federal laws, and any other applicable standards

·     Participate in all camp-wide activities

·     Any other duties as assigned by full-time staff and/or direct supervisor

Qualifications & Training:

·     Be or become a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America

·     21 Years or older

·     Possess or able to successfully complete the BSA National Camping Shooting Sports Certification

·     Significant experience using firearms and/or archery equipment

·     Good organizational skills

·     Previous management experience

Physical Requirements:

·     Must meet the Summit Bechtel Reserve’s high adventure height/weight requirements as laid out in the Summit BSA Health & Medical Record

Uniform:

Summit staff uniform (BSA Field Uniform preferred on participant arrival days)

Housing:

10x12’ Platform Tent; National Scout Camp Staff Area
